From Left to Right

I found this image on the internet, but I was unable to determine its origin. The caption read © PeterCotton-2011 PCP’s DC Girls Height Scale. The graphic shows 16 DC female super heroes and villains arranged, left-to-right, according to height. I thought it would fun to arrange this group according to age. In which case who would be first? Hawkgirl? Nope, she is second and Wonder Woman is third.

  1. Catwoman – In her first appearance she was known simply as “The Cat” and this was in Batman #1 (June 1940)
  2. Hawkgirl – Although she did first don the costume in All-Star Comics #5 (June 1941), she officially appeared as Hawkgirl a few pages ahead of Wonder Woman in All-Star Comics #8 (December 1941). In terms of age, HG is the eldest at five thousand or more years old.
  3. Wonder Woman – She first appeared in the same comic that Hawkgirl debut in, All-Star Comics #8 (December 1941)
  4. Black Canary – First appeared in Flash Comics #86 (August 1947). She later moved from Earth-2 to Earth-1 in Justice League of America #74 (June 1969); however much later that was retconned so that it was her daughter who made the move.
  5. Batwoman – This one may be questionable, but a Batwoman named Katherine Kane first appeared in Detective Comics #233 (July 1956)
  6. Supergirl – The character made her first appearance in Action Comics #252 (May 1959) and was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino.
  7. Zatanna – The character was created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, and first appeared in Hawkman #4 (November 1964).
  8. Poison Ivy – The Batman nemesis whose real name is Pamela Isley, first appeared in Batman #181 (June 1966)
  9. Batgirl – The character, known as Barbara Gordon, debuted in Detective Comics #359 (January 1967), titled “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!” by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino, introduced as the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon.
  10. Power Girl – Superman’s Earth-Two cousin first appeared in All-Star Comics #58 (February, 1976). She was one of the few Earth-Two characters to have survived Crisis on Infinite Earths.
  11. Starfire – The Tamaran Princess with really long red hair whose real name is Koriand’r first appeared in DC Comics Presents #26 (October 1980). This issue introduced the New Teen Titans. She next appeared in The New Teen Titans #1 (November 1980)
  12. Harley Quinn – The character was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in September 1992. She later appeared in DC Comics’s Batman comic books, with the character’s first comic book appearance in The Batman Adventures #12 (September 1993).
  13. Stargirl – Created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, the character’s name and personality were patterned after Johns’ sister Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. She made her first appearance in Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. #0 (July 1999). She will be appearing in her own live action series on DC’s new streaming service this fall (2018).
  14. Batgirl II – Listed as Batgirl II, this must be Cassandra Cain who is technically the 4th Batgirl if one counts Betty Kane as the 1st Batgirl, Barbara Gordon #2, and Helena Bertinelli as #3. Tiny Cassandra Cain first appeared in Batman #567 (July 1999).
  15. Soranik Natu – First appeared in Green Lantern Corps: Recharge #1 (November 2005)
  16. Terra – Technically the character shown is not the original earth-moving mean girl who first appeared in New Teen Titans #26 (December 1982). This is Atlee of Strata who first appeared in Starfire #3 (October 2015)
